Charity Shopping

I love charity shopping. I think I'm addicted or something. So I thought I'd post a few of my finds on here, maybe as some sort of documentation about how much I'm spending in these places and a collation of everything.
I love old penguin books since my boyfriend has made me so aware of them and how beautiful their cover designs are. I loved this book when I saw it because it teaches you how to paint but the whole book is just words,no pictures whatsoever. I bet it's the most boring book in the world, but I'm determined to sit down and read it at some point. Adrian bought it for me in the end and it makes me happy, can't wait to put it on my bookshelf when I get home.
-----
I think I'm just getting obsessed with these books now. I love The observer series and when I saw this sitting in a cabinet in one of the charity shops I visited yesterday I was so excited. I found out it was published in the early 50s and all the pictures inside are so nice,so I thought I'd scan a few in to show. Wow,i'm a geek.

My Sketchbook Drawings

I'm always carrying a sketchbook around with me and I just thought I'd post a few of my recent drawings up as well as some old sketches. I'm getting into drawing my surroundings when I go to new places at the moment and I'm thinking I may in cooperate the surroundings as backgrounds for my new paintings but nothings for definite yet. I don't like to tie myself down with a plan,it's more fun when something spontaneous happens. Also, squared paper is becoming nice to draw on.

Dinosawus Passport

Here is my passport from the "UK web comix thing". I didn't get half as many as everyone else but I tried my best.

Brighton

Had a nice little trip into Brighton today with the boyfriend. I made sure not to spend too much money so was on the eye out for bargains. I think I ended up buying three books ,of which was an Observers Book for my collection.
It's number 30 from the collection about cats :) (I would have preferred dogs, but whatever). A few copies of "This is my zine" issue 1 is now available to buy from Dave's Comics in Brighton too.

UK Web Comix Thing 2010

Went to the UK Web and Mini Comix Thing 2010 on saturday at Queen Mary University's Great Hall. It was full of small zines, comics and prints from loads of well known and not so well known comic book artists and zine artists. I bought a few small zines and books with drawings in and there were quite a few new artists I was introduced to. Definitely something I would recommend going to,even if it is a little geeky,I say, embrace the geekyness!

Here are a few of the artists I liked .

Dinosawus Passport
The event had this cool little thing you could do while you looked around the stalls as well. You got a dinosaur passport and the aim was to collect all of the stickers from each of the stalls. Not all the stalls had pre made stickers so some of the artists would draw a little character in your book. I built up quite a collection in my passport. Picture will be uploaded soon :)

Alice in Wonderland

Went to see Tim Burtons adaption of Alice in Wonderland on Wednesday. I thought the costumes that Alice wore were beautiful but I was not very keen on the storyline or the script. The best thing about the whole trip was seeing this while we were waiting for the main feature, which is the first ever adaption of the story.

Gallery Day

Had a nice wander around London today, visiting the ICA,The Wellcome Collection and WhiteChapel with my boyfriend. I highly recommend The Wellcome Collection exhibition on Identity:Eight Rooms:Nine Lives,I found it really interesting, especially the diary section with lots of little hand written diaries from ordinary people. The exhibition seemed highly focused on gathering a huge amount of artifacts which were really intreguing and assembled well.

The ICA was also interesting because it was all about the musician Billy Childish who was exhibiting his paintings, poetry and other creative projects. There were some nice collagey things there.

The Whitechapel was not as impressive but I loved the bookshop and a little thing happened there involving a man wearing a bunny head, which I think will fuel some of my work.
